I started lurking around for various different reasons. To make new friends, to promote my book, to join forums and just to sit back and talk with fellow writers just like me. No one really told me that it would turn out to be like a part time job. I decided to share some of the important things that I have learned. Most which everyone will already know, but who cares.
1. Promote your book in an entirely professional manner. No SPAMMING. I have seen this on some forums and I think that it is rude to pop up and throw your book in faces of the community without staying and making yourself apart of that community.
2. Format, Grammar, Spelling, Editing. These things are never ending and are never done. Somewhere in your book there are mistakes! Just try your best and do not throw your book out there full of errors. Forums are a great way to get helpful information and links to people that know their stuff!
3. Self-Publishing has become competitive since technology has grown so much. So keeping on top of current trends are smart. Getting yourself out there so people to see you and your book are important keys. Forums, Social Networking, Blogs, and even Word of mouth are extremely important to your bottom line and long term goals.
4. A good cover that is eye catching, a good sample for readers to read, and a good description will move mountain if you do everything right. This I have learned the hard way, so don't make the same mistakes.
Keeping up with everything above should help. My biggest problem now is patience! I have none. It is the waiting to see results that are killing me. I have total confidence that I have done good so far. Now lets hope you can do good as well. I will look forward to any comments on anyone success!

I have some sales. Mostly on Kindle. Really nothing to brag about, especially when read of people selling tons more copies than me! My cover, which I love too. I designed that my self. It was my first real attempt at it. I am really glad that someone likes it. I never had feedback on it before. So that's cool.

ReplyDeleteWell so far I realized that it wasn't going to sell on its own. So here I am working hard to gain attention to myself and others that in are the same boat. I really hope to pays off. I will post an update on sales at the beginning of march with my actually numbers.
ReplyDeleteI am taking things slow before putting my book out there. Of course I am editing for the millionth time. I'm spending way more time networking than writing, which seems bad but hopefully will pay off in the end, and I am thinking about the cover. I have something in mind, but I'm not sure if it's doable on photoshop. If not, I'm going to be disappointed.

I am going to say that having a network of supporter and followers are great before you put a book out. You would already have followers. I wouldn't worry to much about too much networking and no writing, as long as it gets done. AS far cover art,I did mine myself. I used a stock photo and paint.net, which were free.
